Take note that this is just a basic lesson, if you want more advance lesson you can enroll to some online lesson or you can also buy Korean book for you to learn more about the grammar and other thing.
Lets get it on!
The first letter you should learn is the Bieup
ㅂ
This is a consonant and it sound as an english B or P
The next one is vowel that will help you read
ㅏ
This is pronounced as a in the english word father
So if you will combine the two ㅂㅏcan you guess how this character is pronounced?
It is pronounced as "ba"
Another important letter is
ㄴ
This is Nieun or letter N in the english alphabet.
Now can you write NA now?
Every character represents one syllable, so if you want to write "nana" it would be like this:
ㄴㅏㄴㅏ
Every Korean syllable starts with a consonant, so it is very easy to identify the beginning and the end of the syllable. But in some cases there are words that starts with vowel just like the famous "annyeong haseyo"
Those syllables need a placeholder consonant that isn't pronounced. The power of it in pronunciation is zero as in nothing, it is also written like a zero.
0
this is called leung
here are some words to help you read:
0ㅏㅂㅏname of a popular band
0ㅏㅂㅏㄴㅏcapital of cuba
If you will write be sure to put it in an imaginary box, so if in one syllable has three letters that ends with consonant, you need to put the last letter(consonant) below the two first letter. For example this is the syllable "ban" which has no meaning of its own:
반
another one is
안나 anna/ an-na
반
another one is
안나 anna/ an-na
Did you find it easy? If so, I can promise you that you have everything it takes to be able to read and write Korean fluently. The next lesson will based on what you learned here and you will find them easier. come back later for the next lesson.
